Dust Front RTS System Requirements: Minimum Spec Only

Dust Front RTS system requirements: 64-bit Windows 10 or 8.1, Intel i3-3250, 4 GB RAM, GTX 1050, 2 GB storage. No recommended tier is published.

Last verified: 2026-08-30

Dust Front RTS asks for very little on paper. A 4 GB RAM floor and a GTX 1050 are modest targets for a modern strategy release, and the 2 GB install is small enough that storage will not be the thing that stops you. The complication is that there is only one tier to read, and one tier tells you what runs, not what runs well.

The only published tier: minimum

These are the full minimum specifications as listed on Steam:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 / 8.1 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel i3-3250 or equivalent
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 1050 or equivalent
  • Storage: 2 GB available space

Read that list as a floor, not a target. A minimum specification is the configuration the developer is willing to say the game starts on. It carries no promise about frame rate, about how large a battle runs before it slows, or about which settings are assumed. The developer has not published settings guidance, so there is no official statement about what quality preset the minimum tier corresponds to.

Two entries are worth reading carefully. 4 GB of RAM is low for a strategy game that simulates large unit counts, ruin states and destruction across a procedural map. 2 GB of storage is small enough that the install is essentially a non-issue for anyone with a modern drive — but it also means the figure predates or excludes whatever the full campaign adds, since the published spec covers the shipping game rather than a measured final install size.

No recommended or "ultra" specification has been published on either the main store page or the demo page. That is not unusual for a solo-developed unreleased title, but it does mean the usual shortcut — check the recommended row and buy slightly above it — does not exist here.

The practical consequence is that the demo becomes the benchmark. It is free, it is the same engine and the same rendering path as the full game, and it ships with the tools you need to stress it: a difficulty modifier that multiplies enemy durability and health, and a base-size multiplier that can make the enemy base up to four times larger. If the demo holds up with those dials raised, you have a better answer than any spec sheet would give you.

Windows only, and the January 2024 Steam client note

Steam lists Windows as the only supported platform. There is no macOS entry and no SteamOS or Linux entry on the store page.

There is also a platform detail that catches people out regardless of the game itself: from January 1 2024, the Steam client only supports Windows 10 and later. If you are still on Windows 7 or 8, the client itself is the blocker, not Dust Front RTS. The game's own minimum OS line already reflects this — it asks for 64-bit Windows 10 or 8.1 — but the client restriction is stricter, so treat Windows 10 64-bit as the real starting point.

Linux builds: planned, untested, unlisted

The developer has said that Linux builds were planned but that performance was untested, which is why Linux is not listed as a supported platform on Steam. That is the entire statement. There is no Proton rating, no tested distribution, no target date for a native build, and no confirmation that a Linux version will ship at release.

If you are on Linux, the honest summary is unconfirmed. Do not assume Proton compatibility based on other Unity or Unreal titles — the engine has not been stated in any official source, so there is nothing to reason from. The correct move is to check the official Discord or the Steam discussions for other players' reports rather than trusting a database entry.

Accessibility options listed on the demo page

The demo page carries six accessibility categories. These are Steam's own declared tags, and they are worth knowing about because they are the only accessibility statements the project has made:

  • Adjustable Difficulty — difficulty and scale multipliers are exposed directly, including the optional modifier that raises enemy durability and health.
  • Mouse Only Option — playable without keyboard input.
  • Playable without Timed Input — no timed prompts gating progress.
  • Playable at Your Own Pace — no forced pace.
  • Custom Volume Controls — audio can be mixed independently.
  • Camera Comfort — camera behaviour avoids discomfort triggers.

The "playable at your own pace" and "without timed input" tags are consistent with the game having a tactical pause on Space, which freezes the battle while you continue to place buildings and issue orders. Tactical pause is confirmed by the developer's own changelog entries; the accessibility tags are the store's categorisation of the same design philosophy.

Practical guidance at the 4 GB / GTX 1050 floor

Nobody can give you benchmark numbers for an unreleased game, and this wiki will not invent them. What can be said without guessing:

  • Test with the demo before buying. It is free and indefinite, and it is the same renderer. Raise the base-size multiplier rather than playing the default run if you want a worst case.
  • Expect unit count to be the variable that matters. This is a game about battalions rather than squads, with procedural maps and a destruction pass. Load scales with how much is alive and how much is burning, not with texture settings alone.
  • Watch memory before GPU. A 4 GB floor is the tightest number on the list. If you are at exactly 4 GB, closing other applications is a more likely fix than lowering resolution.
  • Do not read the 2 GB figure as the final install size. It is the published minimum for available space, and unreleased games grow.
